I had my aquarium running smoothly up to about 5 days ago when I noticed fungus on one of my guppies pretty bad and little beginnings of fungus on my other guppies’ eyes and or fins. I treated with Maradel Maroxy. 2 days later I added a tiny bit more because the fungus still wasn’t gone completly (this killed my one remaining ghost shrimp. The others were killed by the first dose). I also removed my dwarf frogs and relocated them to Nibbles’ 3 gallon tank until they looked better (one was pale and both were a little lethargic). The next day I did a 40% water change and removed all my plants, washed them off and stripped them of dead leaves, vaccuumed out the gravel, changed the filter, put the plants back in, and sent all brown snails back to hell via the toilet. I also put the two frogs back in the 10 gallon because they had perked back up, and they seemed much happier. After all this I added a 1/4 of a cap (a very small amount) of Maroxy again to the new water. My fish are all fungus free but this morning I had to put my 2 mystery snails in with Nibbles because they had spent the whole day at the top of the tank trying to surface breathe. They are much happier. However, my female guppies’ gravid spots have all become noticably smaller (no babies…) the fish still occasionally “scrape” against things, and my prized female is breathing rapidly, laying at the bottom of the tank a little on her side, and has dark internal spots under her fins. I tried adding a little salt because I read that a salt bath for salt tollerant fish helps and increasing the temp. What do I do? I am going to try a 25% water change to get out some of the medication because I think I may have overmedicated. How do I solve this?

If it’s white spot you need to get rid of, then up the temp to 30C or as close to it as you can. this will speed up the white spot life cycle which in turn makes it easier to treat.

My prized female made it through the night!! I found her on her side/belly squeezed behind the filter. I think the 30% water change I did and the salt I added helped a lot! I think she might have columnaris. I looked at it on the internet ad her symptoms seem to match up and that could be causing tail rot in my other fish. I’m going to my LFS ASAP to get some antibiotics.

Good luck
