Yet another death. 1 of my females became really fat, think it might’ve been dropsy. Found her in the Java Moss yesterday evening.

What’s your tank temperature, by the way? I didn’t see you mention it, or I’ve glanced over it?

Sorry to hear another died…Any vets in your area that do home calls on fish by any chance? Maybe you could look around. That’s the best I can think of really.

I had the heater set to 24 degrees celsius but on hot days it was rising to 26, so I dropped it a degree. I read the water they come from is between 22 and 24. The fish I have left all seem in good health at the moment. There’s lots of chasing and circling going on, so hopefully they’ll make some babies to replace what I have lost.

It seems strange you are losing fish when they are obviously breeding? I would try a high protein diet using microworm and baby brine shrimp. These fish have tiny mouths and a lot of what i fed at first was simply to big. Freshly hatched brineshrimp 3-4 times a day will work wonders for putting a lot of weight on your fish.
Try a lower temp, i did some research on the weather in Myanmar and where the fish were found averages 70f…. This obviously means it gets higher but also drops lower than 70f.
I think a general temperature of 70f for maintainence and raising it to 80-85f for breeding should be a good starting point…

Hi. Thanks for your replies. I am currently feeding them Hikari Micro Wafers and Pellets, frozen Bloodworm, Daphnia and BBS. I have some newly hatched frozen BBS but they didn’t seem interested in them. As for the breeding, it seems those fry I found have been eaten so i’ve not successfully raised any yet. Regarding the temperature, so 70f is 21c? My tank is at 28c today with it being hot outside, as is my community tank which is far too hot. My heater is still set at 23. Do you think I should lower it even more then?

Its hard to lower it when the temperature is warm outside, Mine is at 82f today and the heater has not been on. Mine have been spawning today so 80-82f is certainly enough to get them breeding.
