Hello, I have skulked around this website for the past 6 months- shortly after first seeing the marvelous CPD for the first time. Much to my dismay there seemed little information on their habitat especially concerning aquatic plants. After much research I finally found this website http://persoon.si.edu/myanmar/checklistNames.cfm .
I found a huge number of plants (2400 according to the site) both aquatic and terrestrial. After going through all of the plants and looking for ones found in Shan I made a list, in it I divided the list into 3 groups: 1-found in Shan 2-reported in Myanmar 3- found widely through out Myanmar.
For shortness I have only included ones confirmed to be in Shan if you would like the others let me know and I will post them.

Calliriche stagnalis, Ceratopphyllum muricatum, Eriocaulon collettii
Hydrocharis dubia, Lemna aequinoctialis, Limnophila heterophylla
Limnophila sessiliflora, Ludwigia adscendes, Ludwigia octovalvis
Monochoria hastaefolia, Myriophyllum tetrandrum, Najas graminea
Nechamandra allernifolia, Nymphaea pubescens, Nymphoides hydrophylla
Olteila alismoides, Pogostemon hispidus, Pogostemon wattii
Potamogeton nodosus, Sagittaria sagittfolia, Spirodela polyrhiza
Trapa natans var. Bispinasa, Ultricularia australis, Ultricularia gibba

    I hope this helps everyone.

Hi isaisbreetai, welcome to the forum!

Great info you have there. I have some photos taken by Mr. U Tinwin of the Hein aquarium when he visited one of the original sites where the CPD’s were found.

Are you familiar enough with the plants to identify them from the photos? It would be fantastic if you could.

I’m not that great at identifying plants yet, but from the pics I have seen, the 2nd one might be Rotala rotundifolia, and the third one looks like Potamogeton crispus. The first one looks like some sort of onion or garlic, but I don’t know for sure.
I know niether of these are in the list I provided but they are both reported to be found in Myanmar

Do you know if those pictures were taken at the area where the Danios are/were found? If so I can see there seems to be plenty of rock on the bottom, but not much in the way of wood/roots

Yes, in the yearly part of 2007, Mr. Tin Win visited the original area near Hopong where they were first found. While on their trip they also found several other near by ponds that contain the CPD’s. In Mr. Tin Win’s words, “We have another place. The pictures indicate the other ponds where we can get Pearl Danio from Heaven”.

It was very gracious of Mr. Tin Win to allow me to post his photo’s and trip info on the site.

The home page of this site features a short article about the home of the CPD. If we can determine the names of these plants, I could expand the article to include biotope info as well.

That was cool that he let you post his pics, it helps trying to recreate their habitat. Thanks for sharing with me :)

    Hi Dennis,

With your permission, may I re-post those photo of the plants over on plantedtank.net? Some of the people who hang out there are really good at id-ing plants, maybe they can help us out with this.

    Thanks,

    Jennifer

Hi Jennifer. I got permission from Mr. U Tinwin of the Hein Aquarium to post his photos here. Unfortunately, I don’t have the authority to grant you permission to post them on other sites. Maybe you could just link you post over on plantedtank.net back to this post? If they were my photos I’d be glad to let you use them.
