Hi all after having the cpd’s for about 6 months now iv finally got around to spawning them properly. I set up a bare 16x8x8 furnished with a sponge filter and a woolen spawning mop. I placed a trio (1female 2male) Into the tank and basicaly thats it. I removed the trio the next day and shook the mop and the eggs came falling out, they are not adhesive and fell easily out of the mop. Water temp was 79f and the water was soft and slightly acidic. Only a few eggs were layed and i counted about 10. I now have 9 fry from this spawning and they are feeding well on microworm, i do a 25% waterchange daily and keep the food going into the tank, they are 2 weeks old and growing quickly. I have recently set up another spawning tank and spawned them again, this went exactly the same and i have 10 fry that should be freeswimming and eating tomorrow.

Great job Ste. Did you get a chance to take any photos of the eggs? You could win the award for “first person to photograph Celestial Pearl Danio eggs”.

    Wonderful! :D Truly.

So then I really am the only person here that hasn’t gotten eggs or fry… :( Everything should be right, but somehow, for them, something still isn’t.

Maybe I’ll try playing that thunderstorm recording again loudly next to the tank, and do frequent, smalll water changes, and turn the the temp up a notch.

My family laughed last time I did the thunderstorm thing, but then, they don’t understand…Besides, my fishys weren’t nearly so beautiful back then.

At least I have my baby dwarf platies to raise. They’ve doubled in size already I think. Soon they’ll be on to BBS when I have the time and finely ground fish powder when I don’t. I have a ton of diffferent foods to chose from, so I’ll do the variety thing.

    Congratulations,

I set up a 12cm x 10cm x 10cm plastic tank with a mesh ca 2 cm from the bottom filled it with Horwart and put a pair of CPDs in it for 3 days, this was a test as i have 200 of these plastic tanks from my Betas days ( they were on a drip filter system) I also have around 7-8 young swimming around.

Does it even make a difference? I know it helps with tough gish to breed sometimes, but if it doesn’t inspire these fish I ain’t going through being laughed at again. Plus I have to play it bloody loud, and it’s not exactly intering for me to listen to…

Do they respond to rock too :D ?

On the same note: last week my wife declared me “crazy” when she found me in our darkened living room at midnight, running the flash on my camera to simulate lightning (we keep having cold fronts roll through, so if the plecos breed, probably not because of me)!

HAHAHA CONGRATS STE on the “2nd person award”. Those egg pictures are great, you can see the embryos in them curled up like a “C”.

No you are not the only one that hasn’t spawned them.I got a group of 12 fry a few months ago to grow on.I also bought the last two from my lfs to go with them.I have put them in a tank with java moss & woollen mops & just left them to grow. There has been no sign of anything yet but one day.
