Question of philosophy, perhaps merely theoretical:

Should the less desirable galaxies be allowed to breed simply to raise the number of the members of the species or should they be kept apart?

    What is more important?

Breeding and raising more galaxies despite weaker coloration

    or

Breeding and raising fewer galaxies fewer, yet of better coloration?

i assume by ‘desirable’ you mean colouration as you talk about it in your post

if it is i think proper breeders will hand select ones they breed due to wanting the best fish

however i carnt see one less ‘desirable’ cpd in my tank they all look amazing (except the females due to less colour) however none have any deformations and alkl look great

so to sum it up i think they should be aloud as it has obviously happend in nature so why not?

    ps hope it makes sense

Well natural selection doesn’t always pick the most beautiful creatures.

Humans on the other hand rather have the pretty ones. :)

Now, for example, I have a small ( but fully adult ), pale female that doesn’t look as good as the others. I assume that other people also have ones that look less nice as the others.

I for one believe that the beautiful coloaration and golden ‘sparkle’ of this fish ought to be mantained even if that means fewer born in capitivity.

I’d hate to see these fish plentiful but dull looking in a few years. That’s make me wish they’d never been found at all :(

If the whole litter is drab and ugly, I wouldn’t bother. If one fish is drab while it’s brothers and sisters are pretty breed ti because it still carries the gene of it’s siblings. They have the dominant and this one has the recessive. It’s litter will all be pretty though.
