Alright after breeding many kinds of cichlids over the years I’ve given them up after seeing CPD in a display tank schooling.

I’ve set up a 35 gallon planted tank with them and Meteor minnows. I’ve successfully bred the Meteors in that tank but I guess the activity of their larger cousins is making the Celestials to skittish too breed, so I got a bunch of 5 gallons to breed them in.

Now how should i go about in choosing a pair? Should i put one male with 2 conditioned females? What temperature should i have it at for breeding.

The 5 gallon breeding tanks are decorated with pieces of coconut shell with Java moss and Riccia growing on them.

Any information and tips would be appreciated :D

I normally use 2 males & 4 females in 5 gallon set-ups. Lots of moss, room temperature around 70F-72F.

Remove the adults after 5 to 7 days. In 3 to 5 days you should start to see fry.

Best of luck with your breding project!

2 male to 4 females it is then! So I guess heating the water to 75F was totally unnecessary…

I’ll keep you posted on what happens. They’re very hard to come by here in Canada, I live in Toronto. Hopefully I have a lot available, though I’d love to mix some wild stock into my group.
