There is a shop near me that has CPD in and I’d like to set up a tank and try breeding as I really love these guys. I’ve read everything I could find on the net about them but still have one big reservation. The summer temperatures here in South Portugal can get really hot and my apartment is not air conditioned. I know CPD prefer cooler water than most tropicals but will they tolerate brief periods of high temps? Because their natural habitat is shallow sunny water I’m thinking it is possible they will be okay with this but I don’t want to buy them only to loose them all in the first heatwave. With my other fish I turn off the tank lights, open the lid and run an air stone during hot spells and this works quite well. Does anyone have personal experience to share?

Hi snail, welcome to the forum!

My fish room is not air conditioned and this past summer my tank temperatures were in the mid to upper 80’s for weeks. I didn’t lose any CPD’s, but they did stop spawning.

In fact all of my Danios, around 20 different types, did OK except for the Devario assamensis, unfortunately I lost all of these.
