Wow, yesterday I opened my aquarium hood cover to feed my fish and got the shock of my life when I saw an alien-looking biological cluster :
Then I realized that my Apple Snails had laid eggs!
Looking forward to them hatching. Will sell them to a LFS when they grow up.

Keep us informed.October 5, 2007 at 12:52 am #12476CrazedpufferParticipantThose are weird. Thats really cool though
October 5, 2007 at 4:33 am #12478atlantis_childParticipantMight want to stick that thing somewhere else? Like another tank. Mine baby snails never make it if they’re in with fish. Don’t know who it was, but I expect it was my bratty little peppered catfish.
*Diversion*
They have the cutest dwarf catfish at the petstore! They are itsy-bitsy! I’d get one, but i’d probably get eaten. Wish I had the money, space and parent’s permission to set up my 5 gallon and start a microtank”
Well. actually it’s mostly my parents. They already think I spend too much on fish and that I don’t have the room (but I could always make room of course… )
*End Diversion*
Gave up on snails. I think the last might have died of starvation or something. I hardly have any algae at all.

October 5, 2007 at 3:40 pm #12484celestialdudeParticipantHmm… yeah I was thinking of raising them in a snails-only tank.
Mine are doing well because I feed them and the Corys algae wafers, so they never get hungry. I’ve had snails dying on me before because they starved.
October 5, 2007 at 3:42 pm #12485celestialdudeParticipantAnd now for today’s update…
This is strange, there are 3 snails in the tank, and Apple Snails are NOT hermaphrodites — meaning they ARE either male or female… so somebody laid more than 1 egg clutch. Wow, that’s a lot of eggs to lay!!
October 6, 2007 at 1:20 am #12487atlantis_childParticipantYeah, only way you can tell the males from females is by turning them on the backs and waiting for them to come out. The male has an anatomy part the female doesn’t.
Another way, the one on top… My new snail got dropped on the moment I put her it.
Males.

Well, I’ve pushed as hard as I could, but there is no way. I also promised when I got the 22 I would not get any more tanks.
They like the fish, but not the me spending well, all the money I spend actually…on fish stuff. And all the glass tanks around cluttered my room.
