Always hiding

I have CPD’s in about 4 different tanks.. one of my 12G edge tanks the CPD’s are always hiding behind the drift wood.. I used to have some harlequins and neons in there and the CPD would be out happily cruising around. (when they had body guards!) now that they are gone they always seem to hide behind the driftwood. IF it sit back they will slwoly come out but the second walk by the tank looks empty.
The other tank mates are fire red shrimp, 2 dario darios and 10-12 exclamation mark rasboras (and 6-8 cpds)
anyidea why they are so timid with out the harlequins?
