I had a big problem with dropsy when I first got CPDS.

One major influence i think was water temperature change. My thermometer went screwy then I did a water change without realising. The water was much warmer than the the tank and probably shocked the CPDs.

Mine too looked healthy until they started pineconing.!!

I would quickly institute a low stress environment and protect your fish from any light/sound etc. Check around for equipment vibration too in case something has moved.

I would also consider a treatment to improve the mucous coat.. whatever you fancy really. I found that anti-bacterial treatments for dropsy didnt work. I would also consider giving them not too much to eat as well, mine deteriorated when I tried to feed them up after stress.

I also found it beneficial to reduce the turbulence in the water by altering the spray bar angle so that it went against the glass, and I put a sponge over the filter intake.

It also goes, almost, without saying… test every water parameter you can and see whats about. Its also worth testing the tap water in case of any changes there.

I tried a lot of different tactics when I encountered dropsy, take what you think will work for you..

I wish you luck.
