Its a good job im sad and took a load of pics to share with you guys, my missus thinks im crazy, i fill the memory card within an hour and am running in and out loading them onto here.
I used about 10 small mops, the male had got under the mesh so i ripped it out and quickly grabbed the nearest thing to me, a large handful of mops that were lying unused next to the tanks. I just wanted plenty of cover for the fish to feel secure in. Mops are better than moss in a bare tank because they do not leave a load of bits when removed from the tank. I could not see the back of the tank and the fish obviously felt fine in there.
Todays spawn has been the biggest yet, i left them alone for 2 hours after i first saw the eggs, the female was very thin and hiding from the male. I removed the parents after this and removed the mops, the eggs simply fall out and are not adesive. I have counted at least 60-70 eggs in the tank and there is most probably a few more.
Im well chuffed and think this is quite a result. The female used was the largest of my four and had a very rounded stomach. I think you should be ok with or without the mesh as long as you are around to take out the fish when they finish. if you want to pop round to take a look first hand im in all day tomorrow(sunday)
