Thanks for the overview Ste. 
I cleaned the 10 gallon out. Took out the plants, sand, everything. The galaxies are in a galllon ice-cream pail with lots of fake plants to hide in. Took a long look at the thing today and decided the organic sludge from the plants was probably making the water gross no matter what the test results say. The water looked clear, like always, it just covers the sand.
That stuff was nasty. I almost puked when I smelt it. Cleaned the sand as best as possible, then put it in another ice cream pail and left it outside with a lid on.
I plan on putting lots of fake plants in, and a divider in for the genders. Is it alright if they can see each other, or should I get something opaque?
Should I put in companions for the fish? I was thinking the white clouds, who have seemed to help ease the galaxies before. Especially for that one male… Or is that a bad idea? I was just thinking about the fact that these are shoaling fish.
As for the 5 gallon, I’ll have to ask permission and make promises. Not sure I can pull that off. How long does it usually take for fish to get in the right mood for spawning? With good food and all.
Gotta go back to work.
