So this morning I saw a free swimming fry in my 10 gallon CPD tank. I doubt its still alive because I’m not feeding it and there’s a normal filter in the tank. I have a few questions and thought here would be a good place to ask. First If I want to raise them to the point of being able to sell/give how many tanks am I going to need. I have another 10 gallon in my garage that I could set up as a fry tank but I would imagine I’ll need at least one more for any baby fry that I get after some fry have grown. If I do need another tank will a sterilite container be safe for them? What type of filter should I have in the tank where they breed. Also in the tank for really small fry do I need a sponge filter or will just an air stone due? and lastly could someone recommend a good food for them. I know this is a lot of questions but I want to make sure my fry survive and this is the first egg laying fish Ive bred so I’m a noob at this. Thanks in advance for any help!

It really depends on how many fry you intend to raise. You could raise quite a few with just 2 or 3 tanks.

I have kept all kinds of fish and fry in sterilite containers with very good success.

I use sponge filters in both my breeder set-ups and the fry tanks. These fish come from shallow still-water ponds and don’t require much water movement.

If you are going to raise the fry in this tank, you will need some sort of bio filtration. Sponge filters are perfect for fry tanks.

I use both Golden Pearls and Sera Micron prepared foods. The Golden Pearls comes in sizes from 5-50 micron all the way up to 800 micron. Best of luck with your breeding project!
