I have a green apple snail (nerite) in my tank and have notices one side of his shell has started to turn white with a slightly pitted look. I believe this is from a calcium deficiency. IF i some how add calcium to the water will this mess with any of the water parameters or affect the CPDs in any way?

    The current hardness is 150

Well when U Tin Win of the Hein Aquarium visited the site where they were collecting CPD’s, the water tested at a pH of 7.3 and the conductivity of 250 microS/cm. 250 microS/cm = roughly 160.25 ppm, fairly soft water.

That said, I’ve kept them under a wide range of water parameters and temperatures with great success. Mine seem to be the happiest in cooler water, room temperature un-heated tanks, and with the pH close to neutral, (6.8-7.2 pH).

What temperature is your water at room tempter? I have one tank at 23 and the smaller breeding tank at 22

This time of the year they run around 20 (68F) – 22 (72F). My CPD’s stop spawning when the temps get up around 26 (78F).

Not sure what the coolest would be, but mine are always still going strong at 20 (68F)!
