    Hi dennis

wonder if u could pass on some of your experience to me as a little help is required.
my tank seems to have gone through a new cycle, ive been testing the water weekly and
Ammonia is 0, but nitrites have shot up massively 6 or so (deep deep purple on the chart), which would indicate the first half of the re cycle is completed,
    and natrates are fairly low.

As the tank was previously cycled, I tried to investigate as to why this nitrite spike accured, up on completing a 50% waterchange the spike
was still giving me a high reading, I continued looking and found a dead fish under the gravel , once I removed this and actioned another 20% waterchange
I got the nitrite level down to .25, im hoping this level will be low enough for the CDP’s but still high enough to make the Nitrates kick in?

Im going to test again tonight, but hope waterchanges dont stress out the CDP’s!!!
Would this be the action you would advise? (Partial water changes, until the nitrites hit “0”)

cant believe the hassel caused by a 1/2 inch decomposed CPD!!!
all part of the game i guess. (man its hard to find these little guys once they die!!!)

YES! Even a small amount of nitrites can cause problems. As long as you avoid big changes in water temperature, pH, ect., your fish will be fine with frequent water changes. In many of my fry tanks I do over 50% water changes daily.

    quick update,

    just tested my water again,
Ammonia 0 , nitrites back to 0, and nitrates around the 40 mark

what a different a day and a water change makes!
after yesterday’s fiasco it was a welcome relieve coming back from work to see all my little friends swimming around happily and feeding well !

also, i ventured into the outside closet, seems the previous owners of my property left me an old 60 litre (estimate) tank in there!!!!
a welcomed surprise !!!! so now have a weekend of removing the old gravel (still in the tank!!!) , cleaning it out, and setting it up, they wasnt kind enough to
leave the lid or filter though! hahahaha so a trip to the lfs is in order!!!!

    :)
