I purchased some yellow shrimp (Neocaridina heterpoda var. yellow) about 3 weeks ago and I finally noticed one females has some fertilized eggs, not many but it is her first clutch

[/URL] I figure there are 3 to 6. I am hoping they are as prolific as the red variety (cherry)

I first noticed the unfertilized eggs in the saddle(middle back) last week

They had a rough shipping but otherwise happy and healthy I have been pampering them with hikari shrimp cuisine three water changes a week and various frozen food as a treat

You are doing the right thing. I personally prefer smaller water changes more often, They’ll eat anything, from flakes, sinking wafers, bloodworms (their fav food), shrimp cuisine etc. My colony grew from about 25 in Jan to roughly 70 now. I’ll see if I can post some pics soon. Yes they are prolific, when food is plentyful they breed like rabits. Watch out for planera if you over feed. When I do a water change, I do it as a vacuum, keep the substrate as clean as possible

Unfortunately she seems to have released the eggs I think it is too soon for them to have hatched they are all very young still.
I can’t wait they are not common here right now I am going to do what I can to change that. I prefer the sinking food so I can control where the majority of the excess goes for easy recovery and I see the shrimp more often. Planera don’t really bother me too much unless they cause an issue? I have seen them the gravel is from an established planted tank so they were imported but they are only small.

The shrimp were rare here to until 5 or 6 of us imported them at the same time. Have you considered joining a shrimp forum? I am a member of 2. http://www.crustaforum.com (English language based in Germany) and ukshrimp.co.uk (England). I have seen another member from here post on the english one.

As for feeding, I agree with you 100%. How large is your aquarium. Mine started in a 5 gal. Lost all but 5 to our heat wave last summer, including 3 berried females. They are now in a 40 breeder, and going strong.
