Just bought 6 of these gorgeous little fish from Pisces Pet Emporium in Calgary, AB. They are selling for $5.99 ea. Not cheap for a little fish, but they are a nice addition to my 20 gallon planted tank. The fish seem pretty healthy too, which can be hit and miss with stores like Pisces.

Thanks for the update on where to find these great little fish in Calgary.
I think due to limited supplies, the price of these fish will remain high for sometime to come.

Superb fish…one of my favs!!I’ve been looking for these fish ever since seeing a pic of them on a planted tank site. I’m not looking to breed them necessarily, but do you know if they breed well when there are other fish in the tank? I have a batch of 5 dwarf neon rainbows in the tank as well. All fish seem to be fine with eachother, but the rainbows are quite a bit more active.

CPD’s like most Danios, are notorious egg and/or fry eaters. With other fish in the tank as well, the chance of surviving fry is pretty slim.

Yeah, I kinda figured as much. I do have a couple of empty 10 gallon tanks that I used to use as fry grow out tanks for cichlids, so I could potentially set one of those up as a CPD only tank and throw in a few plants and see how that goes. Worse comes to worse, I can always put them back in my 20 gallon or in the 55 that I’m in the process of setting up.

I purchased them from Alternative Aquariums in Burlington, Ontario, for $2.99 (Cdn) a fish, a couple of months back. Some of them looked a bit thin and worse for the wear, but, cross my fingers and fins, all survived. I also have 6 fry from them, about 3 mths old.

IF they looked better in dealers tanks then they would be a really sought after fish. If I ran a shop I would sell them via a display tank.
Sounds like you got a very good deal price wise Congrats on the youngsters as well. I have now got 15 fish from just five. I’ve not tried to rear the young these are just the survivors in the adult tank.
