Hello all, I have just set up a 3 gallon Picotope with plants and I’m thinking about making it a species tank for CPD. I’m just in love with this little trout! Giggle. At least they look like little trout to me.

The tank is just started running so I have to wait a while for it to cycle, but I’m very excited about this little fish. I have found a tank breed supplier (very important to me that they are captive bred).

Anyway, question about jumping. I know they jump, and I have a rimless, top less tank. Has anyone tried some duckweed as a visual barrier to jumping or does this little guy just not care? I know that all fish have the capacity to jump, but are these guys very prone to it? I could get a piece of glass to go over the top when I’m not viewing the fish I guess.

Here’s the set up (I’m going to get some Glosso to grow across the bottom.

Here is the first sign of fauna, cherry shrimp! I got two of them (one heavily berried) to help cycle my tank and fill it with fun little red shrimp. They breed soooooo easy.

If it is without a top just don’t spook them because they get scared easily and might dart/jump out of the tank.

To me I wouldn’t put any plants to cover the top.. but that is just me  .

The tank is in the birdroom, so no one will be walking by, it’s not a high traffic area. So ‘no spook’ is a check! Giggle. Thanks!

Yeah I really don’t want too much duck on the top, makes things harder for the other plants.
