    Hello,

My name is Jim, I recently became a CPD owner and during my research on these great little fish I found this forum.

I have been keeping discus and other tropicals for many years now, and happened to have a 29g tank just waiting for new inhabitants. As luck would have it, its scaped perfectly for the CPD (at least according to most of the info I’ve read) with plenty of various sized live plants, rocks, driftwood – plenty of potential hiding and [hopefully] breeding places.

I’ve started with a group of 5 and hope to add more later, haven’t sexed any of them yet, figured I would give them a week or so to get used to the new surroundings before trying to sex them, take pictures, etc.

I look forward to meeting everyone and to learning as much as I can about the CPD!

    Thanks,
    -jim

Nice to meet you Jim, not quite so busy on the site at the moment and I’ve been busy elsewhere so apologies for not greeting you earlier.

Take it you are looking to breed your bunch?

If there’s plenty of plants in there, they will breed if you’ve got a mix although it can be an advantage to have somewhere separate for the fry to go before they potentially become food.

    Good luck with them though

Thanks for the reply! It is a bit quiet around here lately…

I do want to bred them, and have determined I have nice mix of males and females. I do have a grow out tank for fry in case I ever see any, but usually I pull the fry out of the main tank and from what I’ve read here usually the opposite is the case – parents are put into a breeding tank then removed for the eggs to hatch. So hopefully it will work out for me. Plenty of moss and plants for them to utilize!

    Thanks again,
    -jim

That’s the way I do it Jim, I go with the gravel vac over their favourite spawning sites and put water, eggs and fry into a holding tank to see what becomes of it.
