    Hey everyone,

I’m new to the forum so very sorry if these questions have already been asked and answered. I currently have a 38gallon planted tank with 20 of these little guys and I’m confused how to get them to breed. I’ve read a lot of the posts here saying how a lot of the times you just end up finding fry in your tank. So the questions are:

    1) How long till your CPDs bred?
    2) What can I do to try trigger breeding?
    3) Can I leave my tank the way it is and hope that I’ll eventually find fry?

I’ve seen them doing this little twirling around each other dance but I’ve heard it’s either a territorial thing between males or a mating thing… Anyone have any which it is?

    Thanks in advance :D

The twrling around sounds like 2 males, but there is probably a female watching close by. I like to keep the temp at around 25C, I used to provide spawning mops & java moss and remove the mops to a spare tank along with vaccing off some of the water from around the moss (to get any eggs that were dropped there. That worked fine for me, but lately I have just left them to it & get a few fry a week that are then pulled out & raised in a separate tank. But just try and give them something to drive the feamle into (ie mops) for spawning & with water conditions kept good, they should do the rest for you.

    Good luck

Haha just after I read your post… I saw them spawning or I think it was spawning :D They used my HC (Hemianthus callitrichoides) as a spawning mop :D I also have some Dwarf Hairgrass I’m hoping they’ll spawn in too so I have a better look at it. Looks like I have two pairs right now as there’s 4 chasing each other arund in my patches of HC and they disappear underneath/in it then come back out almost vertical. Does that sound like spawning to you guys?

    Hi jippy,

welcome, Im new to the forum also. Your description does sound a bit like their spawning. I saw mines do the same thing. The male would follow the female and wiggle his tail and fins. I see him following the female all over the place and they usually dissapear into the foliage and then come back out again. Its just a matter of time until you get some CPD babies. Goodluck
