ive lost 3 cpd’s now over the last month. ive got 1 in a quarantine tank with dropsy (same as the other 3 that died) and im missing 2! (i think the die died when i went away on holiday)

basicly today i sorted out the tank was really overgrown with plants and looked messy.

so i stripped it back put all the fish in a 2.5 gallon tank with there filter stripped tank out. bought some new black sand (looks great) bought some new plants (throwing out my java moss which is about 10x10x10 inches) the six fish i have reamaining are looking very healthy and active swimming around in the open space (not scared of any movment)

so im on a look out for more cpd’s (want wild tbh for breeding but i doubt ill find any)

Sorry to hear Chris. Do you have any Nutrafin Cycle? That might help… also, what kind of lighting do you have?

Meh get Bio-Spira it’s basically the only cycling product that will work. Mos the other stuff is dead bacteria.

its been going to well since i redone the tank!

ive got another cpd with dropsy! just moved him into a hospital tank.

im going to add melefix (double dose)

i carnt understand why they keep getting it. the test results are perfect. i havent changed any water in 2 weeks (theres only 6 in a tank just under which is around 65 litres, it has a filter designed for a tank around 100 litres.

I had a big problem with dropsy when I first got CPDS.

One major influence i think was water temperature change. My thermometer went screwy then I did a water change without realising. The water was much warmer than the the tank and probably shocked the CPDs.

Mine too looked healthy until they started pineconing.!!

I would quickly institute a low stress environment and protect your fish from any light/sound etc. Check around for equipment vibration too in case something has moved.

I would also consider a treatment to improve the mucous coat.. whatever you fancy really. I found that anti-bacterial treatments for dropsy didnt work. I would also consider giving them not too much to eat as well, mine deteriorated when I tried to feed them up after stress.

I also found it beneficial to reduce the turbulence in the water by altering the spray bar angle so that it went against the glass, and I put a sponge over the filter intake.

It also goes, almost, without saying… test every water parameter you can and see whats about. Its also worth testing the tap water in case of any changes there.

I tried a lot of different tactics when I encountered dropsy, take what you think will work for you..

    I wish you luck.

    Si
