How long should I keep new fish seperate from the others?

I’m getting two female dwarf platies in the next while and would like to hear how long you guys do it for.

I usually don’t bother, but last time one of the new ones introduced velvet to the tank, so I’m treating that right now. Bother… My own fault though.

Another thing I don’t do is gradually add water from the tank to the floating bag with fish. I just let it sit there for 10 minutes or so then net then out and put them in (hey, they’re panicing already being in that little bag) I figure if they’re tough enough to survive being at the petstore and chased around by a net every half hour then they’re tough enough.

Yeah…Being a fish at the petstore must suck. Esp. those big, chain stores.

I never used to quarantine at all, then i introduced whitespot into my discus tank  luckily i did not lose any fish although they all suffered from whitespot
(Heat did the trick, send the tank to 90-92f if your fish can handle it(mainly Amazonians), the parisite’s life cycle is speeded up and quickly killed with a dose of medicine)

This was the first disease outbreak in my tanks for over 6 years, it has also been my last.
I now quarentine for 1 month if i have spare tankspace, if not it is usually for a week to see if the new fish are ok. Any problems will usually show themselves in a week.
