After my disaster with a dodgy heater killing off my first batch of fry…I’ve now got more. I set up a spawning tank full of java moss and hornwort(I think) Added 6 adult cpd’s, I think I managed to put 4 females to 2 males, left them alone for a couple of weeks, feeding live foods…and hey presto, babies.
I’ve now removed the adults and am hoping to get a good batch of fry out of them. Can’t work out how many there are yet because of all the plants! I’ve also added some tiny baby albino cories that hatched a couple of days ago!
Such a relief t find they’ve still got it in them!
KSeptember 10, 2007 at 3:20 pm #12137ste12000ParticipantWell done Katkin
September 10, 2007 at 5:38 pm #12138celestialdudeParticipantYay, congrats Katkin!!!
September 10, 2007 at 9:31 pm #12139plymblokeParticipantwell done! Although the babie coies maywell eat any eggs that have fallen through the plants – I was wandering why i wasnt seeing any new fry for a couple of weeks, and one day i noticed a baby peppered cory, who’s egg must have survived from when i removed its parents and made the tank a CPD tank. a few days after I removed him I saw fry again…
be sure to put some photos up of your fry

September 13, 2007 at 3:01 pm #12157katkinParticipantFry doing well so far(still can’t see how many there are). been adding a few microworms as well as liquifry 1 as they look like they are just about big enough to eat them. Got some bbs bubbling away ready for feeding tomorrow. Think I might need to set up a smaller spawing tank and use the one the fry are now in as a grow out tank. Just gotta figure out where to hide it so hubby doesn’t moan!
KSeptember 20, 2007 at 8:47 pm #12228chr15_8Participantcongrats, you deserve it after the last accedent.
how they doing know?
September 21, 2007 at 3:55 pm #12243katkinParticipantFry growing nicely, I reckon there’s around 30-40 plus two tiny albino cory fry who managed to survive. I’ve set up a smaller spawning tank and transfered 5 adults to that to see if they’re happy to spawn in there. That way I can use the 2ft tank that the fry are in at the moment for growing out.
Fingers crossed I won’t have any mishaps this time! Mind you the tank that the fry are in isn’t heated so at least I don’t need to worry about them getting cooked!
KSeptember 21, 2007 at 4:13 pm #12244ste12000ParticipantWell done katkin, what sort of temperature is your tank at if it is unheated?? Did they spawn in the unheated tank?
September 21, 2007 at 7:33 pm #12247katkinParticipantyes they spawned unheated, but this house is alot warmer than my last place. The tank temp stays around 24-26C with no heater in a 2ftX1ftX1ft tank. In fact I’ve only just started closing the windows where the tanks are, at night as the temp drops. I’ll check the ph etc on Sunday as I haven’t checked it since we moved in. Just been too busy. I will also try and get some pics sorted out.
KSeptember 21, 2007 at 10:36 pm #12249ste12000ParticipantIt sounds good, have you settled in now or is everything still up in the air?? Make sure you get them pics in when you get a chance.
