tank is a about 14 gallons i have around 5 males and 7 females (i think)

hard to count in a tank with 1/4 coverd in java moss and 3 walls coverd in hair algea (works out well for the eggs i would guess and also give the fry a place to hide untill i come along)

also one of my babies died just before putting it into the fry tank

At some point, it would be very interesting if we could arrange an experiment to see if leaving the fry in the tank with the parents results in lower fry survival rates than moving them out.

I’ve never seen the adults go after my fry (although I don’t spend ALL my time watching them), and I’m beginning to wonder if we know for sure whether or not they eat their own young. A side-by-side experiment where we had two tanks with similar numbers of breeding adults in each, would allow us to remove the fry from one tank, and leave the fry in the other, and see which method results in higher fry production.

(I know that many other species eat their own fry, but that doesn’t mean that -this- species necessarily does as well).

Of course, someone could come on here and say that they’ve actually -observed- the adults eating fry and then I’d say we all need to get fry tanks.

ive just found another 3 fry in the tank however i cant get them out at the moment as ive just decorated my room so had to drain the tank so theres 3 inchs of water (about 5 gallons)

so they have to stay with the parents for a while so well see if they are there or not very soon

That’s fantastic! I think I’m up to 8. 5 in the breeding net, one I can’t catch and 2 so far in the tank I was going to close down this weekend.

So katkin, what does a .5 fry look like? Do you have a back end or a front end? :)
