please can you post a picture og your tanks so that people can get an idea on how to set theres up

im planing to put java moss onto 2 pieces of bog wood

1 piece comes just out of the water so the moss at the top will be for fry to hid in until i remove them into there own tank

the other is totaly under water which will be used maily for the adults to spawn in

    I use a aqua-40 tank, it’s a small tank for about 25lt.

I changed the original pl-lamp(too much blue)for a white pl

    More javamos

and plants for the surface, too much light

an other filter to change the currance

at last 8 pearl danio’s(2 male 6 female) for the breeding

about 3 to 4 weeks the first fry

is that filter ok for them? as the holes look big on the filters box (i assume it is as your succesfully breed yours already)

chr15_8, the holes are not big and because of the low currance(that’s why i took this type of filter, you can change the currance very easily) the fry had no problems with it, they stayed a way from the currance,

i hope you’ll get some eggs /fry very soon!

How did you get a filter with low current? I’ve tried at several pet shops, and all of the internal filters that ARE adjustable, are HUGE, and I am worried they would not adjust down.

I was planning on swapping to a sponge-based air driven filter the moment I saw any eggs, but is this a good idea? (Will I actually SEE the eggs? One friend who has bred these fish successfully says that he didnt’ actually notice them), and would the eggs get sucked into the filter, or would they stick to the plant leaves/substrate and be OK?

    Gorgeous tank!
Catching fish in that tank must not be fun. Are you planning to rear them in that tank along with the parents?

most egg rearing/spawning tanks should have minimal or no gravel and a sponge filter. If the sponge filter is aged, there will be, as a bonus, some micro-organisims inhabiting it for when the fry become free swimming…plus no worries about fry getting sucked out…plus they’re cheap filters!

I originally had a filter like the one pictured here, and switched to the air-driven sponge filter (only 5 pounds!). The sponge filter is doing the job just fine, and the reduced current means I’m not quite as worried about the fry getting sucked into the filter.

The guy at the shop who sold the sponge filter to me said sometimes fry go up to the sponge filter and eat stuff lodged in the sponge, although my fry don’t seem to do that. (As a matter of fact, I can’t really work out WHAT my fry are eating, but they’re slowly getting bigger, so there must be -something- they’re munching – probably the “Liquifry” I’m adding, but it’s not something I can physically observe.)

Ste: In answer to your YouTube comment (won’t let me reply for some reason), yes, I’m getting fry from these fish. I have 1 male, 5 females, and get about 1 new fry a day.
